Guys

I've tried all the services and spoken to most of the helplins PLUS the engineers:

1: Orange (near Circle Stores & that part of Shad Thames) is fine and works

2: There is no chance what so ever of new transmitters being put in the district as there are too many health potenial risk complaining residents and planning permission issues

3: Unless mastsharing is negotiated with the cellphone companies, the situation will not improve

Sorry but my advice after spending time and money on this one: get Orange as though its not brilliant in some parts of the world, its positively fab in comparison with the rest

I spoke to a very helpful O2 person. He has passed this thread on to his engineers but also re-iterated that as many people as possible should contact them, not just two.Apparently we are near a 2g transmitter but not a 3g one. He said that if anyone is using an iphone to turn the 3g setting off and this might help (settings-general-networks)

Um... Sorry but their advice/ this workaround is a complete cop out! All they're doing is advising you to lower the bandwidth on your iPhone. Yes, this may make your coverage more stable, but your safari is going take ages to do anything.

They rather need to increase the 3G coverage in the area rather than advise 3G users to go onto the lower bandwidth Edge/ GPRS service. We pay for the 3G coverage and should receive it.

I'm on Grange Rd and the 3G cover is also almost non existent there!

Ive also had trouble in the grange road area. The work around (which seems to work in the grange road area) is to turn the 3G off and, after a few seconds, turn it back on again - this seems to bump it back up to 3G

I have just had a message from Nina at O2 (received via voicemail as I was on another call)She was responding to my enquiry of some time ago and tells me that there is now work scheduled in the area to improve reception in October. Not as good as doing it now I admit but atleast they have listened and had the good manners to call back after all this time to update me. Must say I am pleasantly surprised.(No connection -not a pun-etc..)

Well, sounds like O2 have a plan!!! Fair enough. Many thanks for sharing it with us.

Just saw this recent article on mast sharing between Vodafone and O2. Perhaps this is what the O2 customer care people were talking about.

Fingers crossed it improves coverage!

O2 have responded to someone's exasperated Twitter message about the lack of reception around Butler's Wharf - subsequent message exchange here:

I called O2 yesterday to complain about the lack of network coverage (3G or otherwise). I mentioned my postcode as well as the others mentioned within this post and they couldn't find anything and said that there were no known complaints about the coverage in the SE1 area.! (Fume fume! ;o)

My iPhone is frequently sending calls to voicemail without even ringing - and I also often have 'NO SERVICE' showing while at home... I've been taking screenshots of this with my iphone (showing the NO SERVICE message and the calendar to show date & time) to send to them.

I mentioned that these are ongoing complaints to the guy on the other end and he suggested that we write in the their complaints department. He said that unless lots of people complain, nothing will be done.

The complaints dept are here:

complaintsreviewservice@O2.com

or

O2 Complaints Review Service
PO BOX 302
DUNSTABLE

What they need to know:

In your letter please include the following information:

Your name and address
Your mobile and account numbers
A daytime phone number
Details of your complaint
A suggestion of what you'd like us to do to put things right

Please email or write to them - this may be the only way to push this forward!
