No O2 Reception in Shad Thames
urbanite Friday 3 April 2009 2.43pm
Whilst not trying to ignore the problems of the O2 users here it just highlights the thing about mobiles....its not all baout the phone. It is as much a bout the network and the deal you get on that network as much as the phone, whether that is right or not I'm not commenting on.
I guess this is a case of learning by mistakes and always checking the networks' service levels in your area(s) before signing up to them. I will always get a mate on a prospective network to come round first to see if it actually works in my flat in the future.

I also find that Vodafone is equally poor in Shad Thames / Bermondsey Wall West

Hi folks,
I am so happy I found this discussion as I am constantly having problems with O2 around the Snowfields area.
I have had Apple kindly replace my Iphone and O2 have also sent me a replacement sim card.
My Iphone rarely uses 3G when I am surfing the net or retrieving emails from my phone. Most of the time I dont event get Edge coverage and sometimes get the error message saying 'cellular connection lost'.
My calls are dropping if I make or receive calls and sometimes calls go straight rthrough to my voicemail.
I have just sent O2 an email expressing my disatiisfaction to the service and want to know what they are going to do.
I pay £50 a month and feel that they are ripping us all off as when I have previously spoken to them they have said that there is not a problem on the network and that it might be when I am in my flat. Well, I can sit down at tower bridge and still experience the poor service.
My fiancee is on Vodafone and I am reconsidering going back to them as she has no problem with the network.
I hope Vodafone get the exclusive contract for the new Iphone as I do love it ;0)

O2 via southwark council, have kindly asked the residents of tea trade wharf if they would awfully mind having a mast on their building...... not as long as i have got a hole in my ar.. I guess it's a case of not in my back yard... but if southwark want it, then put it on one of the council blocks. Problem solved, Tea Trade doesn't need the revenue and I am sure the council would love that extra income.

Hi James,
Since my last post I have found out that the iPhone is unable to handle voicecalls at the same time as it is receiving/ sending data. It's apparently a 'known bug' (although no one on the O2 call centre appears to know about it!)
This issue means that any calls made to you while your phone is retrieving mail or sending mail or carrying out ANY data related activity (weather/ internet etc) will get diverted to voicemail without any missed call message - and sometimes the voicemail message only pops up much later!
Not sure if this will be fixed with the OS3 release...
Hope this helps!

Hi Gwynaeth,
thanks for the info.
I still havent had a reply from O2 compliants dept and hope that OS3 does fix some of the bugs.
I am still thinking of not renewing my contract with O2 but that is still a long way off :0(

Hello
Glad im not the only one having problems! just switched to o2 (to get the iphone) after being with tmobile for many years and never had any reception issues with them.
I was wondering.. do you think it's worth holding out and hope that O2 improve the service in this area in October as someone mentioned earlier. Or should i just cancel the contract within the 14 day period and go back to tmobile?
I have also heard that O2 will begin mast sharing with Vodafone this year, I wonder if this will help the situation?
Basicaly I want to know... is it very likely that O2 coverage will improve?
Thanks
OZ

Why not?

To echo the comment of James B - why not? We live in Devon Mansions and we have no problem with o2 reception. In those circumstances, and given the fact that it seems only Shad Thames and its surrounds experiences the problem, it would seem logical to place the mast somewhere such as Tea Trade Wharf.
At the risk of going off the subject of the debate, issues like this do provoke a reaction. We had a scenario a few years back whereby the residents of Shad Thames were unhappy at the refuse vehicles collecting from them just before 7:00 a.m. and, buckling under the pressure, Southwark rearranged the refuse collections so that Shad Thames is done after us; we now have the collection first thing (which doesn't actually bother us). I am all for urban regeneration and developing the local area, but the NIMBY approach doesn't help and the tone of LonDan's e-mail (perhaps the council could do with the money) seems (at least to me) to suggest that the council properties (and hence its tenants) are in some way second class. Anyway, no offence meant and I trust none is taken but I think mine is a valid point.
