The best I've got in QES is 2 bars of 2G when I was in the flagstore - could not make a phone call though, had to get the orange mobile out instead. That was months ago but I'll check when I go to Tentazioni to grab my lunch!

There is secret CCTV filming of folks attempting to obtain an O2 signal in Shad Thames.

o2's reception in the whole of central London is appalling.

With 3G turned on with my iPhone there is no internet connection, calls divert straight to voicemail and calls often get dropped when you do manage to actually make them. Googling for 'o2 3g central London' and there are a loads of complaints about it.

Just came off the phone to o2's 'customer services' and their advice is to turn off 3G in London and use the slower Edge connection as the network capacity is overloaded. Amateurs! It's called a iPhone 3G S and we're paying for 3G service. Of course their terms and conditions say they can't guarantee 100% coverage, but I can guarantee they will force you to pay for the whole of your 18/24 month contract. Gah!

Anyone considering an iPhone then I'd suggest waiting until Christmas when they'll be available on Orange and Vodafone.

Im with 3G, I know they are doing major upgrade works in London at the moment, not sure if this adds to your problem with O2? Other than one day of no reception, I've not had any problems.

Agreed with Jonathan K. The O2 network, be it 3G or simply cellular, is appalling in Central London. I was a very satisfied Vodafone customer for years until I switched to 02 for the iPhone. Well, I can't wait until the beginning of next year when I can revert back to a serious, professional network.

Oh thank goodness I found this thread! I've just switched from Vodafone to O2 two days ago and have barely no reception in Shad Thames. I'll be working at home and suddenly find there's a voicemail, despite the phone being on and not ringing. It's absolutely unusable.
I called customer services, who assured me this area shows "constant good reception" - I thought I was going mad, but then I found this thread confirming the poor reception.

Hi

This is actually not to do with reception but is rather 'special functionality' of the iPhone. - The phone itself cannot receive/ send data and deal with calls at the same time. So the more frequently you have your mail set to push/ pull and the more you use the internet, the more this will happen.

I went through the same issues with the call centre - they were clueless! I, meanwhile, googled the problem and found the answer on the US Apple user forum...

It's particularly frustrating when you're trying to call someone and they're sitting there browsing the internet and you keep going straight through to voicemail all the time!

Oddly enough though, I find it doesn't happen nearly as often since the software upgrade in July... and I, like reece, would rather move than give up my iPhone!
