I trust the NHS service more than any private practice which stands to make personal money from your unfortunate accident........

What do you think the NHS are going to do? Fix it MacGuyver style with an elastic band and a bit of gum?

Are you sure it's broken? Is anything done for a broken collar bone or are you just told to rest it?

I think the NHS is the best bet, and Guys and St Thomas' are good hospitals, we are lucky to live near them.

The specialists all work for the NHS so see your GP and go from there.

I sympathize. a friend broke his collar bone last year and he suffered a lot before finally finding a private doctor. Unfortunately we've lost touch now.

It may sound extreme but you might consider getting the Eurostar to France and going to a hospital there. Just make sure you have your EU healthcard thing with you. You will pay a bit but get much better treatment than here.

My mother broke her foot on holiday in France a year or two ago and the treatment was excellent.

I'm curious - over and above fixing a broken bone what is the 'better treatment' that is worth a trip to France? As long as I left in better condition than I went in I'm not certain I'd be too bothered where I was.

That was a genuine question btw, I'm not about to launch into a private/public healthcare rant.

Ok, ANY treatment.

My friend with the broken collar bone basically got left to rot. For weeks. Unable to work.
Not so much as a strapping to hold the shoulder in place. (depends on the injury but it would have helped him in this case)

My mother, and I can't remember the exact details, had her foot X rayed and set (can't remember the cost but under 20) and a nurse come round to her holiday rental every day to give her an injection for 2 Euros a day.

When she got home all that stopped.
