Oh excellent....

Apparently 100 councils will be raising the tax by 7% this year - I wouldn't be surprised if Southwark was in there with the herd.

It's getting really expensive to have my bisn emptied these days - no kids, don't use the library or leisure centre etc... the roads are like farm tracks.... the schools are turning out gang members by the dozen.

I called the environment hotline last night regarding building works at the jam factory at 8.00 pm and the guy took 30 mins to get back to me, wanted me to go and see if it was till happening and he could hardly speak English...

Happy days are here again.....

not sure if 'herd' is the right group noun for Local Authorities - I would tend to go for 'pack' (e.g. like a pack of lemmings) or 'flock' (e.g. like a flock of headless chickens).

I know that the Councillors are meeting over this issue tonight- they will be deciding how much the increase should be. The meeting is public, so everyone can listen.

"The Council Tax For Southwark Services

7 Based upon a net budget requirement of 407,461,448 the Council Tax required, for Southwark services only, in 2004/2005 is 829.21. This means that the Council tax required for Southwark services will increase in 2004/05 by 2.4%.

8 The Council's total requirement has to be increased by the demands of the preceptors - the Council has no control over the level of precepts.

Preceptors Requirements

9 The Greater London Authority announced its precept on 18th February 2004. The estimated amount required from Southwark is 21.224 million - a demand on the Band D Council Tax of 241.23.

But Rabbie,

you've forgotten the fact that we are all largely subsidised by Big Dave, and that he's leaving the area.

We might all get a free ride for this year, given that budgets are already set, but I advise everyone to move to Scotland next yr (where was it exactly Dave?) to follow the childless' money and live lives of luxury on the state.

...there's plenty more c**** in the cup.

Paper to Council assembly:....Band D 1070.44

So what is the extra 10pence paying for?

It's not as though it divides by 12, 52 or 365 to make benefit calculations any simpler.
