Nick I'd settle for a paddling pool! seriously when you think how many outdoor pursuits south east london has lost over the years..southwark park outdoor pool, kennington outdoor swimming pool and also paddling pool, I can't remember the name of the little park just off tower bridge road...Patterson Park? memory lapse! even to have a ice cream kiosk which sold sun hats, paddling pools, a bit like you have at the seaside....

If Ruskin Park down in SE5 can manage a paddling pool so could Burgess.

Just looked at that ruskin park site Beetroot, and saw that Lambeth really seem to look after the younger children...and have SIX paddling pools....How many do Southwark have?

Just had a wasted few minutes on the phone, thought I would contact southwark about there where abouts of paddling pools in parks..phoned the 5000 number man transferred me to a long ringing tone from whence there was no reply..then phoned the 2000 one, and tried to explain to a young lady I was enquiring if they had paddling pools in parks, she did not know what I was talking about! and explained they had small pools IN the leisure centres...I replied no thats not what I was looking for and asked to go through to Leisure and Rec. and she said thats where you are through to. she then put me on hold for about 4 minutes occasionally switching back on to see if I had got fed up or not, which after ten minutes it seemed I had..

So If any council employee can direct me to the website showing me a flipping external paddling pool...great..and Lambeth have six...sniff sniff...

I live very close to the park and often walk through with my baby. I am always surprised at how few people there are in it and feel slightly isolated in the winter months when there are even less people. It's a lovely open space I really hope the money is spent on drawing people into the park to use facilities rather than on removing the unused roads, or have I misunderstood the councils plans? The toddlers play area will be wonderful once it's finished and a welcome addition. Chumleigh gardens cafe is also a hidden gem in the park, but it always seems so empty. On my wishlist there would be a lido, petting zoo, nature trail, BBQ area, bandstand or area for music, pretty flower beds like southwark park, running clubs or outdoor exercise groups - I could go on!

Getting on my soap box again this morning about the lack of paddling pools, the mini-cab driver told me there used to be one in 'coxsons' park near druid street..dont know where that one was, can any one else remember it?

when i think of which london parks i like it's generally got nothing to do with 'facilities'. St james / richmond / hampstead / hyde park etc are nice open well landscaped green spaces with somewhere decent to have a cup of tea and some nice trees and plants knocking around.

is that too much to ask for?

chumleigh gardens used to have a gr EAT Cafe when that lady with the specs ran it ... now it has too much of the whiff of the council about it - but perhaps it offers more in the way of 'facilities'

A children's play area such as the new development at Myatt's Fields Park would be very welcome. I cannot praise this enough and think the developers for Burgess Park, if they haven't already, take a good look. The new play area is bang on the money and you can see the value of how that money has been spent.
Fantastic water features with well-considered play-furniture catering for older kids as well as toddlers.
The layout enhances the facilities and the result is something quite rare in these parts: an inclusive, enjoyable venue in safe and relaxed surroundings.
This has quickly become my boys' favourite stomping ground despite being a bit of a trek.
