Platform tickets Waterloo East/Southwark Station

I didnt relaise this would gather so much news.
I agree with Gaby that the oyster barriers could be at the top of the escalators and this would stop any dodging of fares.
It is like Marks & Spencer saying you can't come into our shop. We have shop lifters, you may shop lift so we will charge you for going into the shop.
After all this it seems as if I was given the wrong information by a member of staff. I was using an Oyster pay as you go so I didn't need the platform ticket!
Will be interesting to see what happens.

TfL has cut the cost of a platform ticket by 80 per cent:

You can now also use an Oyster card to pass through the station without incurring a charge, regardless of whether you are using Oyster for your National Rail journey or not.

I used to (before they imposed the platform-ticket requirement on Jan 2nd) walk through Southwark as I work on Blackfriars Road. Since Xmas, I have had to walk down the steps at the other end of the station and round, adding some 10 minutes to my walk there and back every day.
So with the new decision on Oyster cards, can I theoretically buy an Oyster card, top it up with a tenner or so that I'll rarely use as I don't travel Tube very much, and pass through the barriers without charge?
I realise this will upset Phil 2009 very much as I don't contribute to London Underground, but it'll make it easier for me and that's what counts. ;)

The trouble remains that Southwark tube staff are still refusing access to holders of Southeastern annual season tickets.
This morning my friend's season ticket (to London Terminals) was not accepted by the machines at Southwark (mine was). The TfL staff refused to let him through on production of his gold card. This is wrong. Any similar examples ? I've written to TfL.

Oh dear, Southwark tube staff still can't get it right. I've just been refused access to Waterloo East through Southwark tube even though I have a Southeastern Annual Gold Card. This is wrong. I travel in from outside the Oyster zone so should not have to purchase an Oyster card just for this purpose. Unfortunately the intelligence-challenged staff could not understand this.
