Is the John Harvard local history actually up and running now? I want to visit this morning if possible, what I really mean is if I have the energy!

Yes, it reopened at the end of last month

Yes it is open. I was there yesterday and as ever the staff were their usual extremely helpful selves.
Not wishing to be mealy-mouthed about it, but while it is great to see the way the lending library side of things has improved, I can't help but feel the Local Studies Library has not benefited much in the way of additional space or facilities. That is a shame because the potential is enormous.
One other regrettable bit of news - I gather Stephen Humphreys, our highly esteemed archivist and local historian, is due to leave fairly soon. By choice or not, I can't say, but the place will never be the same without him. The mind simply boggles at the amount of information he has passed on over the years to those who have an interest in Southwark's history.
