Just hope not to find any of the restaurant's namesake (of glass) in the food!

Teighmore have registered "Shard" and "Shard of Glass" as trademarks to protect their interests - also it could well be passing off anyway, since the term has already built up a reputation relating t the building. Restaurants are included in the classes where the trademark is registered.

Did you really think it should be allowable for someone to trade off intellectual property created by another person's work and investment?

No surprises that a name-change is on the cards:

I do rather resent this modern trend for being able to register dictionary words as a trademark. It's not exactly "creating intellectual property", is it?

If they copied the architecture, or genuinely passed themselves off as part of the same complex, or whatever, that's one thing, but what next? Historic Royal Palaces to sue Tower Tandoori? National Rail to close down The Euston Flyer?

I agree. Though I'm an Apple fan I do think they get no good press when they start chasing an independent entrepreneur over the use of 'Pod'.

I hope the restaurant go for my suggestion of 'Drahs'. Sounds suitably asian to me.

Let's hope it isn't sued by The River Herring Alliance ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shad ), or whoever owns Shad Thames.

...if you press it, they will come.

Could have joined the two words together and come up with an original word: THESHARD

Shardview?

And it can't be called "New Shad" - that's been done. How about "Even Newer Shad" or "Shad-Tastic"
