Hi there
Does anyone know of any mother and baby support/get together groups in SE1? Suitable for a mother with a very young baby (4 weeks) onwards?
Thank you so much

There's the Bump and Babies Club thread in Socials.

and there's a Yahoo Group called boroughbabies.

There is a surprising number of mother and baby activities on in the area. If you join the Borough Babies group on yahoo you can see the calender. There is also a weekly coffee morning at The Refinery (behind Tate modern) which also provides free cake! I think people get there about 10.30 on a Wednesday morning (sorry to be vague,it is a while since my daughter was small enough to let me peacefully drink coffee and eat cake!)
Enjoy!

Riverside Parents & Carers, we do soft play sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the Downside Fisher centre on Druid Street. We have a baby area with lots of soft mats for little ones. Good opportunity to meet other local parents and to find out what is going on. www.riversideparents.co.uk. Sign up to receive email bulletins. It's all free, we don't charge for anything.

Southwark is great for kids. Look at the Southwark web site for the 'Let's go' guide to all things to do with baby groups etc. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200246/activities_and_things_to_do

Also note that (although the list above is pretty comprehensive) this is a quite frequent question on the forum, so doing a quick search - using the "search" link which is above and to the middle of the original post - may yield something additional.

Personally, for new parents-to-be, I'd put in a fairly high recommendation for the NCT classes which meet in the room above the Royal Oak (YES!! You can do NCT classes above my favourite pub. How good is that?). Before going, I was quite a strong NCT sceptic (all I'd ever heard from them was, basically, man-hating new agey guff on Womens' Hour or somesuch). There is a small element of organic muesli and conquering pain through chanting, but 80%+ of the classes were really useful to me, and the friendships that came out of it have been really useful to all 3 of us.

...if you press it, they will come.

Hi I'm one of the co-moderators of the Boroughbabies yahoo group. We are a group of over 200 local mums who share information and ideas. The weblink is: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/boroughbabies/

As an extension of the yahoo group a group of local mums meet weekly at The Refinery: http://www.therefinerybar.co.uk/contact.php we meet between 10.30-12.30am. It is a lovely group of mums with pre-crawler babies. Bumps (mums-to-be) are also welcome!! The Refinery give us a free muffins and lovely blankets for the floors to put the babies down on.

I also wanted to let you know there is a regular local parent-run parent and baby/toddler group run at Mint Street Adventure Playground (http://mintstreet.org.uk). We run 10-12am every Monday and Tuesday all year round! We have a separate baby area, a lovely sandpit and water play area.

You mums have all the fun! Scoffing muffins, chilling at the Refinary. babies on the rug. I'm jealous.

If I ever babysit a pre-crawler I will be a pretend Mum.
