Cromwell and his puritan chums banned christmas celebrations 1644-1660.
Not so, This is an urban/cavalier myth.
The Protectorate passed an Act of Parliament in 1651 which allowed shops to open Christmas Day. This was to discourage popery, and as I said before, no bad thing.
This Act has not been repealed!
