I gather the application to develop the flats and shops here was approved last night at the council meeting.

I was admiring some 'fresh' graffiti along the side of it only yesterday.

Take your arty pics of the derelict pub with the shard in the background while you can...

Ha, yes, the picture of a derelict, graffiti-covered south London boozer with the Shard just in the background has got to be some lazy photo-journalist's idea of perfection for some piece about 'the real cost of renewal' or 'the growing gap between rich and poor'.

I would have thought the developers would be chomping at the bit to get this thing flattened since the approval of the scheme. Nothing has happened though.

Maybe they are busy consulting the hobos who live inside about the proposed designs.

Anyone know any more about when the works will commence?

They would also need permission to demolish which should be a formality but they are probably in negoiation with the various potential contractors & may also be borrowing to develop.
If that's the case then the banks will also want to go over the planning permission & the section 106 plus the contracts with any builder.
References & full financial checks are then carried out.

What a pub in it's day with a later license that the other pubs for a few years so everyone would pile in for the last hour.
I saw a proper bit of fisticuffs there one night with a then very well known large local gent knocked clean out with one punch. It lifted him off the floor.
The place went completely silent & the puncher apologised to the present company, stepped over his prone opponent & left.
It went down hill afterwards & even the mice used to wipe their feet on the way out
