Ivanhoe,

You just did what you accused me of doing - i.e. jumping to conclusions and not grasping the true meaning of someone else's point. I wasn't referring to your comments about Dave from the Hartley, but about your post about James's comments and the way you used it to score points against Vaughan (and this was after you and him agreed to let it lie). It had nothing to do with grammer.

BTW, "liberal knee-jerk responses?"!! What the £$%^? You will note that both Dave Baker and I made negative (but constructive) comments about the Hartley (although admittedly DB said the service has improved now), so we can hardly be accussed of being all touchy-feely.

Fine.

The next time I see someone promising to put a problem right but I think they have no intention of doing, I'll keep quiet.

And if anyone else actually says something about how unlikely they think it is that things will be put right, I'll have a go at them for not being trusting enough.

And whatever else you want, Vanessa

Ivanhoe, this is not fair.

James - unless you bring some sort of order to this board then 'normal' people are just going to stop using it.

Anyone looking at this board today is going to agree that Ivanhoe's comments are at best immature and at worse, inflamatory.

Ivanhoe - how about we all get together for a proper, educated debate on how one individual should treat another to try and get the best out of a group situation. May be then you can avoid hiding behind this board and your childish digs at people who are just trying to have a nice, sensible, fun discussion.

I personally would love to meet you - anyone else up for it....... Vanessa, Dave Baker, Red bus???

i think maybe Ivanhoe is being playful and winding you all up (and it's working!)

Ivanhoe, you are obviously a very, very angry young man.

Are you not getting enough mate?

Maybe all that cider is causing problems for you in other 'manly' areas of your life.

"Whatever else I want?" £100, please. :)

I am finding it rather hard to see why everyone is getting so heated about this.

Please let it rest now.

I rarely need to close a thread on this forum, and I don't want that to change.

Let's stick to comments about the Hartley in this thread.

Thank you.

Well, Ivanhoe, Vanessa thinks that you are cute - you lucky boy!

Vaughan, just relax. This is a pretty reasonable little discussion for a Thursday afternoon when we're all a bit bored. I think we should examine what we have in common.

1. We like the food at the Hartley (more or less).

2. We all agree the service is downright sloppy.

3. The proprietor has come out with some fairly empty promises. (I think even this is common ground, to a fair extent.)

4. The proprietor's promises were couched in language that might, be described as 'casual', or alternatively 'sloppy'. (I think this is also common ground.)

5. Ivanhoe pointed out that the language was sloppy, and this was then compared to the sloppy standards of service in the pub.

6. The more liberal amongst us suggested that the standard of writing was not important. (ne jurk lIberrall rispons from Mr moleSwortH)

7. The less liberal amongst us (sorry to describe you as illiberal, Ivanhoe) spotted the correlation referred to at 5, above.

The only person to have lost his rag, Vaughan, is you. Relax! Think nice thoughts, and don't be so abusive - as in: 'Are you not getting enough mate?'

I wouldn't want to miss Ivanhoe on here...but more importantly, I have to agree with Dave Baker that it is the content that counts and not the delivery. More often than not I am reluctant to display my opinion on here, simply because my command of English misses the refinement or nuances needed to express what I think. Now, that's a compliment to most of my fellow 'forumers' because the language is generally of a high standard (as far as I am the one to judge that)

Had this forum been in Dutch or French (my 2 mothertongues), I'd be more comfortable indeed....so, have mercy!

Thanks Mapmaker (SO ODD to find myself saying that ;0))

I did think it was rather off to talk about my levels of sexual potence. Especially (glass houses; stones) from someone who was trying to tell me how to behave.

Is now the time to tell you all that I have suffered for many years with erectile dysfunction, and that only long harrowing sessions of counselling have allowed me to even mention it, and that comments like your above, Vaughan, are likely to send me into relapse?

As for meeting up, that would be lovely. I'll be in the Oak next Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 discussing cider. Vanessa, you're most welcome to join me and the other impotent deviants who'll be there. Vaughan, you can come and buy me a pint. It'll doubtless make my willy so droopy that you can insult me to your heart's content with no fear of testosterone-fuelled retaliation.

And so to bed (with no chance of soiling the sheets, alas)

...there's plenty more c**** in the cup.
