Just watched 'London, the Greatest City' on Channel 4. Very interesting programme for someone like me who didn't really know the bare bones of the history of London.

When they were explaining that Southwark was full of lewd, bawdy types who saw themselves as individuals I felt I could understand that!

They only spent 10 minutes covering the time from the Blitz to the present day - and gave a very 'happy ever after' version of how the city regenerated in the 1980's - didn't mention how this regeneration meant (Some)local people could no longer afford to live there.

Natural consequence but I for one am very glad to see what was essentially a very unpleasant place to be a few years back regenerated into what is now for the most part a nice place to live...

Following on from last week's Channel 4 programme, tonight's Peter Ackroyd programme on London should also be worth watching (BBC2, 9pm)
