I also remember the room to the right as you entered always smelling of the toilets and feeling like you were in a flimsy shed.

This conversation has made me realise how many of the old blokes I used to see every day that I haven't seen in a long time.

Also the old red leather sofa by the fire place, and the various pictures of former regulars that had (presumably) sadly passed away which adorned the walls.

I wish I could say the old blokes were drinking elseware but I used to see them in the street or the newsagents or on the Guinness estate. Thinking of the Rose has just brought home how many have disappeared.
