Does anyone know of anywhere local which can securely dispose of PC hard drives from old unwanted laptops?

Many thanks!

I seem to remember being told that microwaving them really does make them unreadable... but not sure if this does your microwave any good! I also found this advice: How to Securely Prepare Your Old Computer for Disposal

Do not under any circumstances use your microwave...

1) Wrap the drive in old cloth and place in a sturdy brown paper bag

2) Using a large hammer - pound the drive until the pieces are small and the disk bent beyond recognition

3) Dispose of in a suitable manner

That's more or less what I was told to do (by a very experienced IT professional) but you'll need to bash the hell out of it - those hard drives are robust little critters. A lump hammer should be up to the job, but make sure you place it on a concrete surface first or anything underneath it could end up shattered as well!
