Noticed the planning application and licence application to sell alcohol from 0700-2300 , from sainsburys today posted on the walls/windows of where the kitchen shop , laundrette and the dry cleaners used to be

strange they wanted that site considering they already have a sainsburys local around 150 metres away on waterloo road ??

Rumour is that they have to vacate the Waterloo Road premises.

I've asked the Sainsbury's press office whether The Cut store is an additional branch or a relocation but no reply yet.

Shame it's not going to be a Little Waitrose. ;)

Yes, there are such things - I've just discovered one lurking round a corner in Holborn. It's been there six or seven weeks apparently.

Happy days!

Did you mean: "What about Aldi Lidl Netto's?" ;0)

...if you press it, they will come.

Sainsbury's have now confirmed that the branch in The Cut will be in addition to the Waterloo Road store which is not relocating.

It's not the first time the shop on the corner has been a general store - it used to be a Co-Op before Panbros opened:

I was just saying the other day how we so needed another Sainsbury's within 500 yards of the other one. So much more convenient, than its convenience.
