Hello,
We will shortly be moving out of SE1 (blub) and were wondering if anyone could recommend any removal companies. We are staying in London and would ideally like to use a company that can pack for us too.
Thanks
Caroline

When my mother-in-law moved from London to Lincolnshire I got a quote from a company in the latter which saved her 350. All she had to do was provide them with an inventory of her possessions. Whichever way you look at it, it's two journey's; a full lorry going, coming back empty, or vice-versa. In a nutshell, if you're moving away from London it's worth getting a quote from a company in the area you're moving to, as London prices are still higher than anywhere else.

I used Pickfords - not especially cheap or expensive comparing like for like but they were excellent. I would use them again

Just used a removal company called Thames Movers to transport half of the contents of my small flat from Borough to Big Yellow Storage On Kennington Lane. They charged 120 (which included 10 congestion charge fee) for two men to pick up and package (in boxes) all the items including large television, tressel table, 2 microwave ovens, dvds, over a hundred books, bain maries, electrical adapters (15 years worth of batteries, chargers, wiring etc), huge marque and base, fan heaters and a number of other large and small items. They delivered the boxed items to Big Yellow and according to my husband who was on site with them, they were totally brilliant in unloading and fitting the items into the small storage space we'd paid for (hubby obviously didn't lift a finger hence the excitement). They did come around to the flat last night and gave a very quick quote after looking over the items to be moved. This morning was smooth and painless, I even left them alone in the flat for a while when I went to get their fee from the cash-point. I would recommend based on the prompt and painless delivery of service: Thames Movers - 0207 587 5341.

In 2007 I used
www.bestmoveforward.co.uk
and was very happy with their service. Very reliable, friendly and nothing broke or was damaged. And the requested specialist for some fragile furniture knew what he was doing, everything worked out well with this cupboard too - a first. I have moved a lot in my life and had all kind of experiences with different removal companies. This one I would/will use again!

I moved recently and used Moving 4 U. I am very happy with the service I got and my next move will be with them too! They provide all services needed when moving, you can have storage as well if you need one. I needed and it was very comfortable and secure. I got my things back the same way they were before sending them out. Nothing damaged. They have boxes as well. You can check them here http://removalshouselondon.co.uk/
Hope that helps. Good luck :)

Not sure about good companies, but I would strongly urge anyone to avoid using a company called Kwik Movers. Totally unreliable cowboys, took very little care with my furniture and then failed to reimburse me for damage needlessly caused, and don't reply to emails or phone calls... Rubbish!

We are sadly about to move from SE1. Would be good to know if anyone has any recommendations/advice in addition to the helpful information above.

Thanks.

Just to follow up on the above, we got quotes from a number of different people and ended up going with Harradines (recommended on another forum) - http://www.harradines.co.uk

They were one of the only ones to come and do a survey and, whilst their quote wasn't the cheapest, they were a lot cheaper than some e.g. Pickfords.

When it came to the move, they were nice guys, professional, and combined being fast with no breakages. I couldn't recommend them enough.
