Does anyone know why the council are insisting on residents getting planning permission for renting out their homes during the Olympics? Even if not council owned? Seems a bit draconian and prescriptive, but maybe I'm not aware of a good argument.

Thanks, James - that is very sensible. Common sense prevails in southwark again - perhaps other councils and councillors should follow suit.

One good argument is the risk of a mass army of homeless Londoners in Summer. Hearing more and more stories about landlords telling tenants they need to get out so they can rent the property out to an olympic visitor for more money.

Might be a 'millennium bug' type thing, might end up being a big story. We'll see, I suppose.
