I'm sure I read something on hear about a street market on Tanner St or somewhere shortly before Christmas. Does anyone know if it's still running?

I think you are referring to Maltby St market on Saturdays, which is a kind of overspill from Borough Market.

Yes there's Maltby Street for culinary treats, but maybe you're thinking of the other market on Tanner street. It has mixed antiques, bric-a-brac, tea, a food van, vintage clothing, etc. In the large warehouse just near to Tower Bridge Antiques.

Both on Saturdays. I haven't been to the Tanner market in a while, but in passing it seems to be growing steadily since beginning last year.

No it was the bric a brac market I was interested in. It's in a building? What sort of hours does it keep do you know?
Thanks very much.

I am one of the stall holders at Tanner Street market. It is mostly bric a brac, antique, retro and vintage homeware, militaria, collectibles, vintage clothing, vinyl and there is a bakery stall. It is in the old paper bag factory at the Tower Bridge Road end of Tanner Street close to the Malty Street units.

We are usually open 0900-1700 Saturday, 1000-1600 on Sunday. Unfortunately we will not be open this weekend as the premises is being used for filming but we'll be back next weekend.

My husband is the manager at Tanner street market and I'm one of the stall holder's. We have been going on since may last year and we are steadly growing. This is what you can find here: Antiques, glass and porcelain, militaria, silver, vintage clothing (male and female) vinyl records, object d’art. We also have a bakery stall called Saporito which specialises in gluten free, sugar free and wheat free products for people with food intolerance. Also, at the beginning of next month we will have a stall holder selling vintage refurbished Dutch bikes, a coffee and traditional tea cream shop selling cottage industry preserves, chutneys and cottage pickles.
Our market provides a relaxed and happy atmosphere which we hope is contagious
We do not have a burger van any more, the market is an indoor market, the complete address is 42-49 Tanner street, the opening hours are 9-5 on a Saturday and 10-4 on a Sunday. Once in a while we have to close the market as we share the building with a film production company. This week-end they are filming an episode of “The voice”, about two months ago we had to allocate a week-end for the filming of the new Patak commercial.
If you would like to became part of our market family we have stalls available, just email Sabrina or Tony at

Hi Is this Micheal Davies?

The people in the market on Tanner street would love your support. We are there from 9:00 am on the weekends. The description of what the stall holders carry was accurate. I myself have a stall there and sell both new and vintage clothing. I sell a lot of classic and Vintage Ghost, however you will aslo find labels such as Missoni, Orla Keily, Dianne Von Fuerstenburg, Anne Klein, Soap Studio, Paul Smith, Planet, Karen Millen, Levi's and more. We have some good value UGGS in size 12 men's and 6 woman's for a better price than traditionally available in the UK. There is pure pashmina and some hand worked 'Duppatas' available there, starting at £25.00 ad going all the way up to £300.00. It's been a local secret that we have coats and shoes and treatures of all kinds.

There is a good community spirit there, so do drop by.

Sounds fantastic. I've been looking for a new place to get some shopping done as I'm finding my usual haunt, Borough Market, a bit too hectic of late.

Of particular interest to me is the gluten free bread at Saporito - I know this is somewhat obscure, but would you happen to know if they offer Spelt bread?
Friday 10 February 2012 7.45pm
Hi I'm the chef at Saporito. I do Organic Sourdough Spelt as a regular item, normally I flavour it with Caraway seed, and it has toasted sunflower seeds and Rye grains added too. If there is something you are particularly interested in then you can contact me on my e mail or and order whatever it is you need. I do traditional and contemporary English and Italian as well as items for people with special diets. Just drop me a line.
As Nancy says, it is a lovely atmosphere on Tanner Street, friendly with nice things to try on as well as eat!
