Opinions are fine, but the tone! I speak Italian, but I don't know any Italians that are as vulgar and aggressive in their tone as Orione.

I am really sorry for my unapologetic way of expressing my filthy thoughts. I assume my miseducation does not level up with the heights at which the discussion is generally maintained in this forum.
Please forgive me if I believe everything I have said is true and I totally stick to my own words.
I have read my post again (at the cost of getting offended by my own words) and I still fail to understand why Davies thinks I was hijacking the conversation. While I was just remarking something simple.

PS: I can assure you that I am one of the most gentle of the country. I can introduce you to some more indigenous..

I retreat penitently in my rooms and leave field to the flowered and polished discourse of Mr Edward Woodward. Who will show me the way.

He might show you how to express an opinion without insulting anyone who doesn't agree with you.

...if you press it, they will come.

Well, the last time I employed my "unapologetic way of expressing my filthy thoughts" I actually did apologise and I try not to be drawn to that level again. As far as the hijacking goes, it does seem to be your favourite subject, and you don't seem to be able to stay away from it, despite my suggestion on the last BM thread, to which you agreed but then still couldn't stay away from.

I keep supporting the fact that we should shop in all Market to help the good producer.

No, we should (and do) shop where we get value for money, quality produce and a comfortable shopping environment. I would never buy something from any trader/producer to "help" them. This is capitalism, Orione. A trader/producer succeeds or fails on the three criteria listed above.

Thank you for the lesson.

"The Romans we go the house?"

Seriously though Orione, are you suggesting that a customer who shuns a particular trader or market in favour of another one is a "wolf" to his fellow man? Let's look at a scenario shall we? You buy your tomatoes from Mr Smith. After a while, the price of Mr Smiths tomatoes increases/quality decreases/shop becomes overcrowded. Mrs Brown opens a shop down the road, selling tomatoes which are cheaper, of high quality and sold in a nice comfortable environment. Would you still buy your tomatoes from Mr Smith? If the answer is yes, then you're a bigger fool than I first thought. The best way you could help Mr Smith is to pop into his shop on the way back from Mrs Brown's and explain to him why you now purchase your tomatoes elsewhere.

I agree on everything but one thing.
I try no to be a totalitarian in terms of judgement and I try not to identify the single farmers with the institution.
Meaning: I am sure that you can find great producers at Borough market and maltby and bad ones in both sites.
I just try to sustain the presence of more markets rather than their dwindling..

Ultimately when I don't like something I see or eat.. I tell directly to the producers.. Once.. Twice.. Even three and some bad word before I loose confidence. That's how we build customership abroad.

In terms of crowd neither bother me because if you go to a Market in Italy you will have to swim through all sort of people and the "worst" are the old ladies who talk for ages about all the people who died in the last month or who got seen with somebody else.. before even by a single celery. In the meanwhile they stand in the middle of the path.. So crowd is ok for me and it makes
me feel home..

That's all

Thanks Otto for taking this thread back to topic!

Hello everyone,

I am a trader at borough market, and also a local as I live on Bermondsey street so I get the chance to see both side of the stall as we could say.

Personally I think it is fantastic to have such a choice of good products in three close locations (Borough Market, Bermondsey square, and Maltby street).

I think all of them have advantages and disadvantages, but nothing is prefect.

Regarding comments about Borough market and tourists. Don't punish traders by not going to the market because of tourists. It is not our fault if Borough market is advertise in every London tourist guide.

My favourite moment as trader is between 8am and 11 am on a Saturday morning when our local customers come to the market and when we have time to have a good chat! After lunch time I wish i could close my stall before the horde of tourists and people eating samples for free without acknowledging us arrive! I am not making money, I am losing some!

Having followed a few threads about the market, I understand that might have grief against management/trust/tourists, but by not going you are only punishing the traders, nobody else.

I hope to see all of you at my stall one day!

And happy to discuss further

Flo
