Though I live on The Cut, I always enjoy a visit to the parade on Great Suffolk Street. It's one of those traditional British parades that in just a few yards has a butcher, baker & though no candlestick maker there is a locksmith, greengrocer, betting shop, chippy, florist, newsagent, pub, dry cleaners, couple of cafes and for the unavoidable... an undertaker.

Anyway, a new barbershop has opened. Last Friday I went in for a haircut and found it to be very good and decent value too. The three barbers are ex-Ted Baker 'Grooming Room' and seem to specialise in an elaborate Turkish approach to barbering - as well as haircutting they do hot shaves, head massage and that kind of thing. I was somewhat alarmed when at the end of my haircut the barber lit a flaming wand and used it to burn off all the fluff that grows (increasingly, alas) on my ears. Not comfortable but not painful either. Definitely effective.

It was 15 for a wash and haircut which seems very reasonable given the quality of the service. Seems a very welcome addition to a lovely street.

I have just had a hair cut at Jeffs Barbers. It turns out that the owner used to cut my hair at Ted Baker in Holborn. I am over the moon Ibrahim has opened up on my doorstep with the same great service and only 15 for a haircut too! No need for haircuts wuth Mr Baker now. Bargain.

Finally, a decent barber's shop in the area. I had a good haircut, hot towel, ear singeing and a massage for 15. A new local has been found.

I just had a hair cut at a new barbers on great suffolk street called Jeffs barbers, not only do you get a great haircut, wash & finsh for a very reasonable price you also get a hottowel and a massage too!!! Also they burn that unwanted hair that grows out your ears with something they call the FLAME. Best barbers I've been too

Gosh, I hope that encourages the rest of the parade to do something similar. Think I've said here before that most of the businesses there could do well to try a weekly late opening evening too.

(Perhaps without the funeral directors though!)

I agree on later opening. I wanted to use to fruit and veg shop as my local, but as he only opened 9-5 it simply wasn't going to happen, also the cash only policy whilst charming, doesn't really work in the modern world.

Does anyone know if the new owner has entered the 21st century?

Just to stay on the topic of the veg shop - I found the hours and the cash-only policy a pain too, but have now organised a fruit and veg box delivery to my home which is really handy and good value.

Well to be honest there is a cash machine like 10 seconds away from the parade at costcutter so it ain't to much of a pain.
