Though I live on The Cut
, I always enjoy a visit to the parade on Great Suffolk Street
. It's one of those traditional British parades that in just a few yards has a butcher, baker & though no candlestick maker there is a locksmith, greengrocer, betting shop, chippy, florist, newsagent, pub, dry cleaners, couple of cafes and for the unavoidable... an undertaker.
Anyway, a new barbershop has opened. Last Friday I went in for a haircut and found it to be very good and decent value too. The three barbers are ex-Ted Baker 'Grooming Room' and seem to specialise in an elaborate Turkish approach to barbering - as well as haircutting they do hot shaves, head massage and that kind of thing. I was somewhat alarmed when at the end of my haircut the barber lit a flaming wand and used it to burn off all the fluff that grows (increasingly, alas) on my ears. Not comfortable but not painful either. Definitely effective.
It was £15 for a wash and haircut which seems very reasonable given the quality of the service. Seems a very welcome addition to a lovely street.
