I'm refurbishing a flat, and want to build a wetroom instead of a standard bathroom. Can anyone recomend a good builder/plumber who has done work along these lines ?

thanks

I would love to contibute but our bathroom is small. For some reason, Brits cant live in a flat without a bath even if they only "bathe" in it once every 3 or 4 years. Our wetroom plans are on hold :(

If you're going to do it you need to pay very careful attention to the location of the loo!

A friend of mine converted his bathroom a couple of years back and now fails miserably to keep his toilet roll dry.....

Paul,

Suggest you go back to your power showered homeland if you don't like the smell of the locals here.

Jai/Chloe,

It's a very expensive and very specialist job to have done properly - some of the lightweight shower screens nowadays look fantastic and, combined with a low profile tray/grilled floor will be alot cheaper and easier.

Just my 2penneth.

You can buy a good system that is easy to install. Its called Wedi board and is designed for this application.

The shower boards come in different standard sizes and are made with a built in falls and a drain hole designed to take proprietary drain system and grille. You can get rectangular, square or curved options plus plain flat sheets you put accross the rest of the bathroom floor. There are also wall panels.

Its made of a dense polystyrene type stuff and coated with a 'crusty' waterproof coating so you can tile straight over it.

There is special tape to seal the joints and simple instructions on how to do it.

try doing a search on the web for WEDI (German I think) but htere are supliers listed all over the country. I got mine from a tiling shop in Camdem Parkway. They delivered for free.

Good luck. I'd suggest doing the Wedi yourself and getting a professional tiler to do at least the floor.

Good luck
