We are always subsidising the meat eaters! Quorn is also fairly expensive compared to chicken etc (although not steak I admit).

I am a vegetarian and I also do not mind being served Quorn at all - at least it is similar to what the meat option (i.e. the preferred, taste-tested option) is. It's when people serve me some sort of veggie cliche they normally wouldn't dream of eating themselves that I get annoyed (and, yes, I'm thinking Veggie lasagne, rissotto, pasta).

It's interesting that the two people who have actually stated they are vegetarians don't mind it - it's the meat-eaters, "but some of my best friends are vegetarian", who are against it!

It's because I enjoy food so much that I tend to get a bit fussy.
- Or maybe the vegetarians on this forum don't care as much as my vegetarian friends?

I'm a vegetarian who wont eat Quorn - because it contains egg, and being a vegetarian I don't like to eat any part of the chicken. That's the main reason, but also because it represents rather unimaginative and dull dishes from the cook!

I think it just goes to show there are many types of vegetarian (who usually do eat eggs and diary) / vegan (who don't). There are no set rules - it's all a matter of individual conscience after all. Plus, let's face it, we veggies always try to out-martyr each other!

I also think that calling any dish dull just because of a certain ingredient is a little simplistic - any dish containing a potato could be plain or amazing - it all depends what you do with it. The same is true of Quorn - add it to a cook-in jar of sauce - not too great, add it to a fantastic, home-cooked, spiced meal and it can be very nice. I'm not saying it's better than vegetables but it is a decent alternative now and again.

"Quorn is also fairly expensive compared to chicken etc "
Tracy D, Quorn might be more expensive than a battery chicken, it's a lot cheaper than a proper free-range chicken! I personally try and eat better quality meat, and that means eating it less frequently, the only meat I can afford to eat everyday is the factory stuff, and I'd rather not eat that at all. Factory farming is a good example of the market dictating the product, and a very good reason for better regulation . The consumer may think they're getting a bargain, I think they're poisoning themselves. - Sorry, wandered off topic a bit.
