Morning! For no other reason than pure inquisitiveness, can anyone shed any light on the following:-

1. What is being constructed at the junction of Ewer St and Union St

2. What is behind the arrival of a dayglo orange sign across the old Devonshire free-house on Flat Iron Square proclaiming "Snoopy v The Red Baron"

All information gladly and gratefully receved

Would be nice if they could clean up the orange paint they splattered all over the new flagstone paving.

For number 2, it's part of the MERGE Festival - see http://www.london-se1.co.uk/whatson/event/13121/fiona-banner

That site should be within the 100-142 Union Street site, this is the planning permission from years ago, maybe they have finally started it now?

Quote:
Demolition of 100 Union Street and redevelopment of 100-142 Union Street for a mixed use development of 4 buildings of 4, 5, 7 and 12 storeys [counting mezzanines] incorporating 85 residential units, Class B1 business space, Class A1 retail/A3 food and drink (eg restaurant) use and associated basement parking

There's been numerous rounds of amendments on the planning site though, and it seems to have been referred to the Mayor too at some point? http://www.london.gov.uk/mayoral-planning-decision/planning-decisions-26-may-2010

Many thanks for clearing those up - slightly alarmed at the scale of the development proposed on Union Street....!

"Artists will be transforming disused hoardings on derelict buildings throughout Bankside with site-specific original artworks. Artists Fiona Banner, Heather and Ivan Morison, Andy Harper and SheOne will be given space to create a piece that is sensitive to its environment and enriches an otherwise neglected area".

From Merge Festival website.

Dayglo Orange sounds well 'sensitive to its environment'.

Must have taken Fiona Banner a long time to come up with this methinks. I like the Germanic script for the words 'The Red Baron' as he was German. Deep. I like it.

I'm not even sure you could label the area neglected these days, everywhere you turn there's an artist/architect/collective doing something!

As French writer and all round curmudgeon Celine pointed out a long time ago 'Nowadays people are so bored that artists have been posted everywhere as a precaution'. Can't help feeling the same really.

A mystery no more thanks to the hoardings surrounding the Ewer St/Union St Junction - see attached link for the latest architectural gem to grace SE1....

Any thoughts? Seeing it appears to have been a pile of rubble for many years, any development is welcome. I just feel that its a little.... what's the word I am looking for....??!!
