Blackfriars Preservation Society
First ever meeting

Monday 12th November

At the basement of Quentin House, Gray street (waterloo road end) opposite the building site, sign on gate.

For further details please email:

How many Victorian warehouses have disappeared over the last year within the Blackfriars area?

How many are currently at risk?

How many local heritage landmarks are being stripped away to make way for bland homogenous high-rises?

Too Many.

Blackfriars interesting unique historic urban fabric is being ripped out and replaced with characterless and soulless buildings, such as Travel Lodge.

It is time to come together, discuss, learn and put together an action plan, to find out what we can do to help turn the tide before it is too late.

Everyone welcome.

BVAG are fighting a similar fight in the 'Bermondsey Village' area. It is clear that heritage is presently not an issue with which Southwark Council is engaged - like central government, come to that. We have learned a few lessons over the past couple of years that you might be interested to share. We should certainly coordinate over some threatened buildings that we all want to see preserved. I am very concerned about the Sons of Temperance building. Do you know what is happening with it?

Perhaps you could give me a call.

At present The Sons of Temperance is being refurbished.

Just to let you know that the owner of Imbibe, 173 Blackfriars Road put in a planning aplication last year to erect a 3&9 storey building on the site of his bar last year. Planning App number 11/AP/1972 but then withdrew it due,(one assumes) to a better offer.
