There are building works in front of the National Theatre, where there used to be a courtyard, facing the river. Does anyone know what they are building and whether it is permanent or a pop-up?

I've been meaning to write about this for a while.

It's a 250-seat auditorium which will be used for two years whilst the Cottesloe Theatre is shut for the NT's major revamp.

Planning application documents here.

The NT hasn't publicised the temporary theatre and it seems to have passed without notice by most of the theatre/London press.

Thank you, James. That's helpful. It is remarkable that the NT haven't publicised this. I am a regular visitor and have asked staff inside what was going on and nobody really had an answer. Hence my question on here.
