Has everyone heard about all the businesses at Union Street under the rail viaduct being evicted? Things like the Union Theatre and Rocket Van etc. This would be a huge loss to the area. Apparently it's for Network Rail to 'regenerate' into more offices - which is particularly sad given how much office space is vacant in the area...

There's a pretty well subscribed petition for anyone who wants to support the effort to stop a move that will undeniably steal a bit more of the area's character.

The documents are now online for the planning application relating to the arches between Union Street and Surrey Row:

The plans to turn the Union Theatre into a restaurant are covered by a separate application which is not yet online.

Many of us like the Union Street Theatre.

Unfortunately, National rail want to build more offices around this area, evicting the small businesses and the Theatre.

They are doing well on their petition - but the more who sign the better the chance to allow these businesses to stay.
