My mum, a retired school teacher in her 60's will be heading over from Malaysia to be with my husband and me for a few months, having just lost my dad to cancer. We thought it would be good for her to be in a different environment and have some time to center and find herself again. She's in good health and does really enjoy gardening and getting involved in social work and things like that. Anyone know of some activities or groups we could get her connected to?

Warmest regards,

Hi Shalini,

I am very sorry about the loss of your Father...

If your Mum has a command of English and would enjoy social/voluntary work, Time and Talents are always asking for Befrienders to visit the elderly and housebound who live a very lonely existance and never see a soul apart from their meals being delivered or perhaps a carer who flies in and out within ten minutes... if they are lucky! Or perhaps contact age concern and perhaps help some pensioners change their curtains or wash the lampshades etc.,?

jan :-)
