Do we think there is some form of agreement between Southwark Council and Tesco / Sainsbury's that any vacant premises is their no questions asked.
I would like some variety and not just the same old Metro / Express store opening up all over the area.

The council has no say in who private landlords choose to rent their retail units to.

With a few exceptions the supermarkets don't need planning permission for their new stores if they are taking over an existing shop unit.

The growth in convenience shops like these is linked to our changing lifestyle but not town planning. I found this an interesting article (amongst others).

I had a quick look around the new Tesco on The Cut the other day. Very expensive. Waitrose is much better value. Will steer clear of these "Metros" and "Locals" I reckon. Geared up for the "Chicken Ding" market.
