Does anyone have an idea for a local venue where chess could be played on a regular basis in the evenings?

I have a number of folk interested in attending but lack an appropriate venue.

I can't pretend that I expect it'll be a big revenue generator for any pub or cafe / restaurant or such who would host but perhaps if there was somewhere that was regularly quiet for a couple of hours after work it might work just to have a few people in anyway.

For "a couple of hours after work", how about asking any pub with a function room? If all you need are a few tables, and you're out of there by 7:30, and you have a drink or two each, then surely it must be worth someone's while?

...if you press it, they will come.

How about the Rose and Crown (if it's local to you)? Their upstairs is quite small and often pretty quiet:
