While fully supporting what Helen Pankhurst and Annie Lennox are doing, it may be of interest to point out that the last time the suffragettes dared to enter this area they were chased out over Tower Bridge by an angry crowd. Neither their use of terrorist tactics, their fanatical support for war, their dedication to the Conservative Party, nor their antagonism to Ada and Alfred Salter, met with much favour from the people of Bermondsey and Southwark.

That's very interesting, Graham Taylor.

It sounds like an infamous episode in SE1 history.

Can you provide any info (links etc. would also be good) on the suffragettes being chased out over Tower Bridge into the City?
