I know we've commented on this elsewhere, but thought it would be helpful to have a discrete section dealing with these.

Since joining the cabinet in June last year as "Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport", Cllr Mark Williams has been wined and dined on several occasions:

If I was in a job and given the opportunity to be wined and dined like this I wouldn't say no; it happens all the time in the city and we shouldn't deny this 'perk' to people just because they work in the public sector. We just have to hope that Cllr Williams is of good, moral standing and is not influenced by all this wealth and flattery. My only objection, is that if any business is discussed at these events, Cllr Williams should submit a report outlining key issues. Having said that, I wonder if the wining and dining starts before contracts are signed, or after? It's interesting that one of the donors was Kim Humphries (ex-LBS).

All that you say is true, Karen, but my concern is that human nature dictates that it is hard to maintain objectivity and impartiality when you've accepted a personal favour/night out at the expense of these people. The old adage about mixing business with pleasure is a good one.

Yes, I too was intrigued about Kim Humphries being a donor.

I agree. I know I would find it difficult.

28/07/2015 - Elephant and Castle Strategic Partnership Dinner; Donor: Central Ltd, 15 Cromwell Road, SW7 2JB

All properly declared and nothing illegal has taken place.

I am not sure that I would agree that human nature dictates anything of the sort that Gavin suggests.

It is of course possible that it is human nature to judge others on how we behave but even then that is not universal.

In the USA they ban public servants and elected officials from any perks - they even have to pay for lunch at meetings.
Of course the power of cash works at higher levels there!

It may not be illegal, but immoral?
