In case it is of interest, the Movietone Archive is now on Youtube. I didn't do a full SE1 search but searching Elephant and Castle I found a brief item about a partial building collapse, in a film that I would guess is from the 1935 (as it seems to be preceded by a brief snatch of Herman Goering's wedding!):

House Damaged by Gale Results in London Tragedy

A web search on the Leete's Paints shop indicated that the building appears to be one of the restored LSBU terrace on London Road, just along from the Duke of Clarence. The building next door to what was Leete's still has the number 128 embossed on it.

Forgive my ignorance - I just can't place where this is in Great Dover Street. Can someone please put me out of my misery?

DebraG - It's the building on the corner of Great Dover Street and Spurgeon Street.

As Eileen says - corner of Spurgeon Street. The building is now the offices of Baxter Hoare travel agents. Building is still owned by the United Reformed Church.

Yonks ago (50+ years) I was a member of The Girls Life Brigade and they used to have their meetings the Pilgrim Fathers Church after the Crossways Mission on Old Kent Road closed.
