Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get some blackout blinds installed in a bedroom (the OH is having issues sleeping). I'd prefer to do it locally... anyone have any recommendations?

Cheers,
Sam

Careful with those thread titles, old timers like me were immediately transported back to the days of ARP guys, or coppers, in the early 40s, shouting, "Put that light out!", if you left so much as a chink in the curtains that could give Herr Göring's Heinkels or Dorniers a clue as to where to drop their bombs.

I got some recently from the place on the Old Kent Road
http://www.dreamcurtaindesigns.com/blinds
They came with fabric samples, measured up and installed.
I'm very pleased.

I can recommend 'Create-a-Blind' at 624w, The Tower Bridge Business Complex, London SE16 4DG. 0207 231 5331. They not only make and fit blinds but they were the only company that I could find which also replace the mechanism on existing blinds bought elsewhere. http://www.create-a-blind.co.uk/shop/about-us.html

That phone #, 020 7231 5331, is the same # as the firm that we used to have blinds, (not blackout), supplied and fitted in our house.
I know them as Gemini Blinds.
They are in an arch in the Tower Bridge Business Complex.
If you enter from Clements Road, swing to the right, and they are up on the right about 200 metres.
They did an excellent job, at a very good price.

Same here, we bought black out curtains from Dream Curtains and their service, quality and reliability is excellent. Highly recommended.

I ordered mine from the same place. I am very satisfied with what I got.

So sorry, I need to withdraw my recommendation for Dream Curtain Design on the Old Kent Road. Within 3 months I had problems with the blind mechanism. I phoned and was told by Tuber at the factory that someone would be in touch when they were in the area. They never did.
Never get Tahar, the manager of the OKR store, to do the measuring. He recommended vertical blinds, but the fitter said they wouldn't fit.
Morat is the owner, he was to phone 'today', he hasn't yet.
Real shame, as the original black-out blinds were lovely.
The service, though, has been atrocious.
