The patterns you describe is what we have endured here of SBR for 10 yrs plus - it goes of waves of getting a bit better then plunges again into appalling service and crime. I an only suggest you report in particular the credit cards to the police.
Last Autumn - I had an item stolen - yes stolen by the sort office - usual red card saying we tried to deliver when I was in - then item goes missing. In this instance I contacted head office and they ordered Mandela Way
to search - but deliberately did not say what was in the parcel. After a lot of palaver - I got a call from Mandela Way
-saying we cannot find your ( and then tripping themselves up) as they went on to describe the item perfectly. Head office though would not admit theft and used every other word around theft to describe the incident but did pay for the item plus compensation because I said I was going to the police.
I had exactly the same as Rambling Phil several years ago - in ID was systematically stolen along the way - statements etc- and fraudulent accounts set up - which led to all sort of nightmares.
I have now decided just to report any definite missing items to the police ( as I said in my cases -it is usually after 'we tried to deliver' card is left that the matter occurs) That way you can kick off/ contact head office with your crime reference number.

RM are fully aware of the crime at the worst and the enduring bad service that goes on at Mandela Way
( and I am not saying everybody there is criminal - but there is too many incidents to have any doubt there is some organisation to these incidents) but refuse to take responsibility for it- BUT they are not above the law!
