Hi,

I have been trying to book the London Fire Brigade Community Sports pitch (located at Grotto Place/Sawyer Street) but have been met with a complete lack of response(s) from the various internet contacts. Also, there doesn't seem to be any information via signage outside the pitch either.

Is anyone able to help me with this/shed any light on the situation? Thanks!

call 02085255000 and ask for property helpdesk to book the sports pitches. They have been through an internal shift around (used to work there in the same dept that's how i know) so it may have changed. just make sure you let the person on the phone know why you are calling, and they should direct your call to the relevant person!

Hi, have you had any luck yet? I know that the LFB have now sold the whole of their Southwark site so it may well be the case that they now no longer own it or have anything to do with it! :-/

Thanks for that advice mate. I have been trying to phone them but they are either pretty useless or just don't answer. Will keep trying though!

Yeah I haven't had any luck yet, if that is the case I am just trying to work out who is now in ownership.

There was a covenant on the land when iit was sold to the LFEPA. I asked some FOIs about it over 10 years ago:

(3) Were there any covenants regarding community use attaching to the transfer of this site to LFEPA?

Under the terms of an agreement made at the same time (in pursuance of s106 of the Town and County Planning Act 1990) the Authority is to allow members of the public access to the multi purpose all weather sports pitch and changing facilities during the following times

(a) 6.00pm to 9.00pm Monday to Friday inclusive
(b) 10.00am to 8.00pm Saturday, Sunday and on Public Holidays (except Christmas and Boxing Days) and
(c) at all other times when the sports pitch is not required for use by the Authority between 10.00am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday

The Authority is also to provide a booking system which also includes a provision to charge for the use of facilities.

The Authority is entitled to withdraw use of the multi purpose sports pitch and changing facilities from the public for necessary repair and maintenance or reasonable improvements or alterations or for any reason demonstrably beyond the control of the Authority.

Presumably if the site was sold on the covenants should have passed on with it? Either way an FOI request to the LFEPA should get to the bottom of it.
