For a few years, there's been a collection bin for small electrical devices at the Baylis Road local recycling point. Very useful. I went there today to try to dump something to find that it's gone.

The Southwark Council web site only shows two electrical recycling points, both in deepest, darkest Bermondsey/Rotherhithe - I've got better things to do with quarter of my weekend than head off to remote parts of town. The Lambeth council web-site shows the location of local recycling points, but not what bins are at each of them.

Does anyone know of a local (to Baylis Road area) place to dispose responsibly of small dead electrical devices?

Cheers Beetroot. It's the far side of Vauxhall - not even in SE1.

According to this web site, Southwark used to have local WEEE bins - http://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/5835. But, the latest view on the Council's web site (http://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-centres/weee-banks) only shows two for the whole borough; on the Bermondsey/Rotherhithe border and the central refuse disposal facility (which is, amusingly, six minutes walk from the nearest bus stop)

I presume a lot more small electricals are finding their way into the general household collections now.

That's useful to know about the bin in Rotherhithe - thanks for posting. I need to dispose of a broken toaster and this receptacle seems just the ticket.

Just had the same issue with the Baylis Road one! The SE1 website has an article saying there's one near Southwark Bridge Road/Great Guildford Street but it's not visible on Google Street View from July 2016...

I guess I'll contact Veolia to see if they can enlighten - it's rather annoying!

Anyone know about lightbulbs btw?

The Southwark Bridge Road one is on the corner of Mint St park, just after the turn off for Marshalsea Road, heading toward Borough Road.

Subject to my comment, I discovered today the small goods bin is no longer at Mint St park.

Tweeted to Lambeth and Southwark Councils and Veolia and Lambeth just got back to me:

"Hi, apologies we no longer have street bins but there's an opportunity to recycle small electrical items on 29 April"

Yay. :(

I suspect theft/break ins to such bins might be behind this.

Annoying though.

Useful. :/ Still, more convenient than Norwood!

Google Street View reckons the one in Russell Square is still there as of June 2016!

Thanks for this. It is annoying, clearly people will just chuck old toasters and whatever in the normal bin now.

I wonder if it was theft from the bins that prompted their removal, or possibly firms who should be paying for commercial waste collections taking advantage of the free disposal points.
