Don't know about fitted carpets but for rugs try Pilgrim and Payne 020 8960 5656. They come out to give you a quote, then collect and bring them back in about a week.

Sketchley's hire out those Escort carpet cleaning machines for about 20, and it'll clean up your house faster than The Cat in the Hat's little cats A to Z.

When I moved into my house I picked somebody at random from the Yellow Pages. Chap who came barely spoke English, I paid him & left for work, and when I came home the place was incredible.

The cleaning machines really do work!!!! And it's not actually that hard - I think we got one from Travis Perkins - it was actually quite fun (and this is coming from someone who usually subscribes to the theory that there is no point in doing housework - six months later you have to start all over again! It brought the carpets up a treat, and was really inexpensive compared to "professional" cleaners.
