For the past few months I have been enjoying the cycling obstacle course of Tooley Street - huge holes in the road supported by girders, coaches parking or pulling out seemingly at random, areas fenced off or dug up etc.

I often go along the river path to avoid it.

Does anyone know what it will look like in the end? Will it go back to being a two way street as it should be Will there be a contraflow for cyclists if it is not two way? Will coaches be banned from parking on it? Will the terrible road surface by the crossing to London Bridge be sorted out? etc

No doubt it is connected with the ludicrous congestion charging scheme. The aim of which seems to be to create a ring of dense traffic jams just outside the charging zone, in order to give the councils in these areas a reason to impose road charges of their own.

There is a similar stupid thing going on on the other side of Tower Bridge, where in addition to not being able to make a right turn onto the bridge, they have narrowed the street across from Tower Bridge, and put in another no-right turn sign, which sensibly seems to be being ignored by almost everyone.
