Just read the Sandra Rhodes article in The Scotsman that was linked from the SE1 homepage and shocked to see that the journalist chose to describe Bermondsey as "dull and dour"!!! Ah well...guess it all adds to the atmosphere and mystique of the article, but he must have caught it on a particularly wet and windy afternoon! ;-)

"Dour" is a particularly odd word to choose (in that it's almost exclusively applied to Scotland, in my experience).

I shall be shot down for saying this, but...

The approaches to the area from both the north end of Tower Bridge Road or from the Bricklayers Flyover are both dull and dour (used metaphorically as "marked by sternness or harshness; forbidding")

In fact they appears worse than some of the approaches to central Glasgow from the M8, which at least had the benefit of decent soft landscaping!
