We have only lived here since May 2000 and really enjoy living here. We find all the changes taking place very exciting. However, the litter on the pavements and streets is absolutely appalling. We have written to the Southwark Council Members about our concerns, offers of solutions and even our help but have received no reply. Perhaps if this were to become a topic of discussion some solutions or suggestions would come forth that might be implemented. We find that often when this topic comes up people say that it is the immigrants who create all the litter and rubbish on the streets. I say that statement in itself is rubbish! The country needs to set the standards! If these immigrants were in other countries they would have to abide by the laws there and would learn soon enough that is isn't acceptable to throw their trash around the streets. Other countries have found solutions to this problem and it is time some were found here.

Does anyone know the latest news on Southwark council's plans for the square? A year ago there was a competition with lots of grandiose entries, a winner selected, and then... nothing.
