My usual entry about Hatfields Green Space meetings!

Tomorrow evening will see the first designs for the site. Everyone is welcome - 6-7pm Practical Law Company, 19 Hatfields SE1. Do come along and give your views.

There are several exciting ideas that will need extra support to get funding:
What do you think about a fountain or water feature?
What about a piece of sculpture by someone local or about the area?
Would you or your children be interested in information about the plants & trees?

I have submitted a longer article about this project to the News section of this site, if you want to read more.

With water features it is essential to assume that local kids will want to go in, viz the fountains at Battersea. So you might as well design for them.

Water at the Princess Diana playground, Royal Academy and Coram Fields are worth looking at.

Also don't forget the water bill. You want the water to circulate, not get lost. So think about splash, evaporation and run away.

I also like paddling pools that can be filled when staffing is available. Causton St playground in Westminster is a really good example of sensible design offering good play value in a small space.

I also hear that the Battersea fountains arouse courting couples. Perhaps a place to find male totty. Or take your totty to.

The Thames Barrier Park ( has the most amazing fountains ( - went there during the 2003 heatwave, and the kids were LOVING them.
