Extended pub opening in Borough
howard Tuesday 22 November 2005 7.24pm
Hi,
Does anyone know which pubs or bars in Borough are going to be opening later due to the new licensing legislation?
Some friends and I are looking for a newly late opening pub for Thursday night to celebrate the liberalisation. We will of course leave the pub very very quietly and not be drunk and lairy.
Thoughts?

I think the Woolpack on Bermondsey Street? They certainly had an application in.

I think the majority will be taking extra time on Thursdays - Saturdays.
What kind of place do you fancy?

Anywhere with a good crowd, maybe serving real ale.
Fave pubs in the area are the obvious Borough Market ones - the Market Porter and the Wheatsheaf. The Royal Oak's really good. Quite like the Bermondsey Kitchen, the Garrison and the Bunch of Grapes too.
Willing to explore further to new places too . . .

Thanks for the Woolpack suggestion. Looked it up on beerintheevening.com and it sounds alright.

Although not a universal opinion, I think The Woolpack is an improvement on the previous incarnation, the Scotia.
Your taste in pubs sounds similar to mine - where's the Bunch of Grapes?

The Bunch of Grapes is a Youngs pub on St Thomas Street.
It has a funny sunken garden out back which is OK in Summer.

Certainly no sign of extensive drinking post 11pm on saturday. No last orders bell meant polite refusal at 11.01!
