Coincident with the first 2006 F1 race on March 12, my family will be on holiday in the Southwark/Borough area of London. Can anyone recommend a local pub for viewing the race coverage with other fans? Good food would also be a plus!

I don't know though - start at New Kent Road, Elephant, Blackfriars, through the City back over Tower Bridge, round Bricklayers Arms and back to NKR - quite a good grand prix circuit.

More interesting than round and round Silverstone.

Try The Elusive Camel on Tooley Street, behind the GLA building. Food decent, big screens; go upstairs if possible, its a bit comfier.

It's a tricky question.

The race on March 12 is in Bahrain and so it will start at 11.30am UK Time (I think) and last a couple of hours. So you need a pub which will be open at 11.30am and also a pub which will be happy to be showing F1 at 1.30pm and not the build up to France v England in the Six Nations.
So, The Camel (http://www.london-se1.co.uk/restaurants/view.php?venueid=201) at 186 Tooley Street, London, SE1 2TZ would be my first try, otherwise the non-SE1 Sports Cafe on Haymarket.

Staying in SE1 there is another branch of the Camel chain on Lower Marsh, by Waterloo station - as with the others, this has a number of different screens and seems to favour off-mainstream sports (for starters it won't show English Premiership games). Not sure if this maybe a result of the large Antipodean clientele, but may mean the F1 is on.
