Does anyone know what is happening on this? Last year, Southwark council promised:

"Southwark will be making a progress report to its Executive Committee on this Planning Framework by the end of November, which will be followed by a public consultation in the New Year."

Technically, 31st December 2003 is still in the New Year, if you are looking from 2002, but assuming the council weren't deliberately trying to pull the wool over our eyes, I presume this consultation is imminent?

The consultation probably took place on 1/1/2003. the council ,may have advertised in the local newsagents at Peckham, on a post card to advise electors that a 'consultation' was iminent!

and the porcine element takes to the sky...

How about using the Ask Austin facility on Southwark's website.

The project is being re-considered following general acknowledgement that it had some failings.

The partnership between Southwark Council and Southwark Land Regeneration is not defunkt. Another approach is being pursued.

Thus the delay.

Sorry - I should have said 'Now' not 'not' [defunkt]

The sooner the wrecking balls go into the shopping centre the better.

Obviously there needs to be consultation on the bits that affect people's homes.

But the public spaces at the Elephant are crying out for regeneration. Now the wraps have come off the new Northern Line Tube station, we can see how the place might look if any care was lavished on it. The redevelopment of the Coronet is surely good news too - provided the new nightclub doesn't cause nuisance to people living close by.

But these efforts are undermined as long as the shopping centre remains in its present state.

We need less consultation and more action to get rid of it, and to allow people to move around at street level, rather than in those ghastly underpasses.

Just give the blessed thing to Norman Foster and let him knock it down!

let's face it. Southwark council have been wittering on about "regenerating" elephant and castle for years. You just have to look through their archive press releases from previous years, which they are stupid enough to keep on their website. They clearly document their own failings.
One of these days we will all get organised at a grass-roots level, and get the whole lot: Labour and Liberal (is there another party?) voted out. So, any councillors from across the whole borough- watch your backs, because we are on to you.

following today's news report on the front-page of the London-SE1 website that the elephant regeneration is back on track, three observations on the new document:

(1) Too "strategic"- ie: not enough detail on the specifics
(2) No timetable (eg; for when demolition work will begin)
(3) YET ANOTHER CONSULTATION- just get on and DO something, SOUTHWARK!!! IE: deliver ON THE GROUND, rather than just talking about it
