Im wondering if Sarah or anyone else knows of a football club for a football mad lad whos almost 14yrs. he is currently playing at battersea at the moment as a reward to good school work but the club he is with is too expensive (13 for 2 hours) to sustain for too long especially if the other wants to start going as well.

Alternatives might be to phone the either Fulham Football in the Community (Semora or Karim) who provide soccer coaching across Lambeth, or their Millwall equivalents in Southwark. Though they don't run clubs they are in touch with clubs and indeed sometimes refer kids.

Sports officers in both Councils ought to have a list of local clubs.

Brian Dickens, Manager of Sports Action Zone may also know of alternatives. He can be reached at South Bank Employers Group.

The Portuguese community have a good set of teams and coaching. They are part sponsored by the Madiera Patisserie in Vauxhall, and claim to be happy to accept non-Portuguese. Indeed many of the people involved seemed second generation and mother tongue English speakers. They have a girls team from 11+. Not of interest to Jac, but it is very hard to find soccer for girls at the stage (around 8+) when they are less happy playing with boys.

You might also try stuff based in Coram Fileds. Last time I went there was a load on their notice board.
