There's no apostrophe in "history at its best". The apostrophe only appears when you are shortening "It is" as in "It's a beautiful day". [waits to be shouted down with a list of possible exceptions to this general rule].

An easy mistake to make, but (as someone pointed out) not much of an example for the thousand of school kids who visit every year....
