i would imagine though, that as the flyover is quite exposed, there could be a chance of buses being blown over? maybe?
I know (seen the film) that the dear old Routemaster was tested to lean to a fantastic angle (>30 deg?) without falling over, and I would hope that newer buses are to the same standard.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that these days tall vehicles are designed to skid sideways under wind loading before they topple over. Still not sure I'd feel very safe on the top deck going over the flyover though.
An X453 might be a good idea - direct from Elephant to Tesco's or New Cross. That would probably relieve congested 453s and 53s along NKR/OKR, and of course there would be no problems with toppling the bendy buses.

Not sure if it was official or not, but when I was on my way home last night and the traffic conditions were, shall we say, sub-optimal around Bricklayers Arms, I saw a couple of buses go over the top - a 53 and a 168 I think, and people visible in the top deck so they weren't out of service.
