If you live on Tyers Gate or your flat is on Bermondsey street backing onto the courtyard in front of 5 Tyers Gate, I'd like to share information about the planning permission sought for development of no 5.

This relates to unit 1, 7 tyers gate, which is a large photographic studio. It has recently been sold to John Ross who is redeveloping unit 1 (in no 7) and building no 5. The grey gates already have planning permission to be replaced and these belong to no 3, so he has interest there too as the architects for the gates and the buildings are the same.

Our concern at the moment is how much noise will be generated by lorries delivering goods to the studio, via, we expect, the access to the courtyard. It could be like people moving in and moving out all day long. This would affect not only people overlooking the courtyard but also all residents of tyers gate. It is likely to also include evenings and weekends. A photographic shoot for a furniture catalogue, for example, would involve lorries turning up with all the furniture and set builders constructing mock interiors. Then dismantling it all and carrying it away again. The same for bathrooms etc...

We don't know this is what is intended, but a large studio with a lot of money already being spent on it sounds like a large operation.

On this basis we are objecting to this planning permission on the grounds of the potential noise, traffic and disruption to the neighbourhood.

The yellow notices were posted on 11.8 but I suggest anyone concerned writes as soon as possible. By Wednesday next week (or Friday, failing that as that's the 21-day limit for concerns to be raised). The planning officer will make a site visit next week so it's most useful he knows of people's concerns before then so he can check them out.

The case officer at Southwark is Alistair Talbot 020 7525 5906 and he answered the phone very promptly and was helpful. The details of the planning applications are on the southwark website http://www.southwark.gov.uk and the address to write to is on the website and on the yellow planning notices on the lamppost outside 7 tyers gate.

I'd be interested to hear any information from se1 posters!

The premises in question was already in use as a photo studio for the last 4 years until a few months ago.So it is hard to see an objection for something that the previous owner was already using it for.The photo studio at the back(no5 Tyers Gate) underwent new steelwork and roofing about 5 years ago nobody complained at the time.

here is a link to what it looks likes inside when it was run as a photo hire studio under the previous owner transcolour

as to objects about deliveries,it is a business permises and entitled to recieve such. When the previous owner operated a Photo Lab and hire studio(transcolour)I seem to remember they had far less deliveries than the graphic design consultancies above them.Photo studio are usually an 8.30am-6pm after 6pm overtime costs are prohibitive. The beer Garden at the back generates noise at a level a photo studio could never compete with
